Bali waterfalls: Sekumpul, Munduk or Ubud?

Quick answer
Choose Sekumpul when the waterfall itself is the point of the day. Choose Munduk for forest, lakes and a cooler highland atmosphere. Choose Ubud when you want several accessible stops combined with temples or rice terraces.
Sekumpul: the destination waterfall
Sekumpul lies in Buleleng in North Bali. Depending on the count, it is a group of six to seven falls in a forested valley. It is the strongest choice for scale, but the journey and walking make it a poor add-on to an already crowded Ubud day.
Munduk: landscape before checklist
Munduk suits travellers who prefer a hike and mountain scenery to rapid sightseeing. The Twin Lakes jungle hike, temple and waterfall trip combines rainforest around Lake Tamblingan, a traditional canoe and a natural waterfall pool. Pick it for the whole highland route, not solely for one photograph.
Ubud: the practical first choice
The Ubud waterfall circuit visits Tukad Cepung, Tibumana and Kanto Lampo, with a water temple and rice terraces in the listed itinerary. It is the easiest answer for most first-time visitors because the day links several recognisable places. The compromise is a busier pace and potentially crowded stops.
Before you choose
Water level, spray and path conditions change with rainfall. Check footwear, swimming permissions, entrance fees and the amount of stair climbing with the operator. A private driver or car is useful for a deliberately paced waterfall day; if you self-drive, compare Bali rental cars and confirm the licence, excess, deposit and CDW conditions before paying.
