It is a large island with several separate visitor bases. Ubud, Uluwatu, Lovina and the east coast are not quick neighbourhood hops, so always check the pickup area before booking.
Map distances are misleading. Ubud to Uluwatu commonly takes around two hours and can take longer in afternoon traffic. North-coast trips from the south are full-day commitments.
Administratively and as a visitor destination it belongs with Bali, but it requires a fast-boat crossing, usually from Sanur, plus road transfers on the island.
Bali has no metro or train network linking the resort areas, and Ubud has no beach. Public transport is limited, so tours, drivers and ride-hailing are central to most itineraries.
Dense traffic, narrow roads and unfamiliar driving conditions make a private driver the more practical option for many visitors. The homepage car-rental box is therefore deliberately disabled.
Choose by where you stay: Mount Batur is easier from Ubud, Uluwatu from the south, and Nusa Penida needs a harbour transfer. A shorter route often beats a longer highlights list.
